Spa Gardens – Extensive Park Grounds:

Just behind the entrance pavilion, the attractions of the park are waiting to be discovered.

Lake Stage

Lake Stage

The millennium lake stage attracts everyone’s attention. It got its name because it offers almost 1000 seats with a view of the stage island in the park lake. The lake stage is the central location for attractive entertainment and a broad range of events. From the start of May until the end of September, spa concerts from regional musical bands take place each weekend, free for visitors. The excellent acoustics of the stage are widely appreciated. Most notably, choirs can almost completely do without electronic support.

Graduation House

Graduation House

The two-winged graduation house in Bad Staffelstein’s spa park is a so-called ‘open air inhalation treatment centre‘. A health-promoting climate is created around the graduation house thanks to the vaporisation of the healing salt water. The minerals of the salt water are contained in the aerosol, which can be used to prevent or to treat.

The graduation house in the Bad Staffelstein spa park is open daily from Easter until late autumn and is free of charge. Various research studies have confirmed the healing effect of the aerosols. This treatment is above all suited to treating dermatological and asthmatic conditions. The graduation house is made from local larch wood using traditional wood construction methods. This wood is especially suitable for the salty climate because, in contrast to other types, it is not particularly affected by the salt air and salt water. The blackthorn surface is 1,200m² large and the graduation house has a length of 55 metres, a width of 12.50 metres and a height of 11 metres. The original salt water is lead into wooden channels situated under the roofs of both graduation house wings.

Evenly arranged recesses divide the salt water between the blackthorn branches below. It runs over the fine divergence of the branches and is vaporised. Tiny droplets in the air develop which form the aerosols. Around twelve cubic metres of salt water are circulated every hour.

The water evaporates in the graduation process, but the salt is retained. This means that the salt water in the graduation house has a salt content of up to 25% after a certain time – and creates a healthful aerosol for respiratory illnesses.

Breathing Exercises

The correct breathing technique can help the bronchial tubes to get the best effect from the soothing salt air. The Obermain Therme thermal baths invite you to “breathe deeply” with their guidance:

The positive influence of salty air on the respiratory tract is well known. Along with the right breathing technique, the fine droplets of salt water can reach into the narrow branches of the bronchial tubes. The effect can be heightened even more through light movement therapy. The aim of this breathing exercise is correct and conscious breathing, light expectoration of bronchial fluid as well as a better moistening of the respiratory passages to gain a more effective protection against infections and allergies.

This free program in the Obermain Therme takes place every Saturday from 2 pm to 2:30 pm, from Easter until the end of October. The meeting place is at the graduation house in the spa park.

Fountain

Fountain

The fountain between the two graduation houses is made up of six fountain-pictures, water bells and bubblers. The surrounding benches are a great place to relax in nice weather.

Monopteros

As we pass the seven-metre-high fountain we reach the panoramic hill with its round columned temple – the Monopteros. From here, you have a marvellous panoramic view. We can see over the towers of the town, Banz Abbey, the pilgrimage church of Vierzehnheiligen and all the way up to Staffelberg mountain. To the west, the expansive area of the spa park with its arbour stretches out to the Riedwald.

Ring of Sculptures

Here we can see eight works from Prof Wilhelm Uhlig, the former professor at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste (Academy of Fine Arts) in Nuremberg.

Bucket Wheel

Bucket wheels once were typical of Franconia. This one used to supply the lake around the stage with fresh water of the Lauter.

Nowadays it's used for demonstration purposes only.
